1. About HostSage
HostSage (hostsage.dev) is an independent engineering publication where authors and engineers share practical guides, infrastructure benchmarks, tutorials, and commentary covering VPS hosting, cloud systems, and developer deployment.
All published material represents original research and editorial writing created strictly for general educational and informational purposes. HostSage does not host, distribute, promote, or link to pirated, unlicensed, or infringing material.
2. Information We Collect
We operate on a minimal data collection principle. We do not have public user account registration or payment processing on this site. Data interactions are limited to the following:
- Technical & Server Logs: Standard technical metadata sent by your browser (such as IP address, browser user-agent, operating system, referring URL, requested resource path, and visit timestamp) is processed by our hosting and CDN infrastructure for network routing, DDoS mitigation, and server security.
- Interaction Telemetry (Conditional): If you grant consent via our Cookie & Privacy banner, we capture aggregate interaction events and page telemetry (via GoodData and Ahrefs Web Analytics) to evaluate guide performance and content engagement.
- Newsletter Subscriptions: If you voluntarily subscribe to the HostSage newsletter via the sign-up form, we collect your email address and subscription timestamp. This information is stored in our database and processed through our email service provider (Resend) solely to deliver article dispatches and updates. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link included in every newsletter email.
3. How We Use Information
Any data received is used strictly to:
- Ensure fast, stable, and secure delivery of our web content.
- Prevent abuse, volumetric attacks, and automated scraping.
- Deliver newsletter dispatches to confirmed subscribers who requested them.
- Analyze aggregate traffic trends to prioritize future benchmarks and technical tutorials.
- Respond to direct reader inquiries sent to our editorial email addresses.
We never sell, rent, trade, or monetize your personal data.
4. Cookies & Tracking Technologies
A cookie is a small text file stored on your device by your web browser. HostSage manages cookies and client storage as follows:
Essential & Preference Cookies
We store your cookie consent preferences in local browser storage (hostsage_cookie_consent) so you are not prompted repeatedly on each visit. These are strictly necessary for compliance and site functionality.
Performance & Analytics (Conditional)
Loaded only when you grant analytics consent. Telemetry scripts (GoodData and Ahrefs Web Analytics) collect aggregate page views and reader metrics without tracking individual identity across the web.
Advertising Technologies & Google AdSense
Current Approval Mode: HostSage is currently configured with advertising disabled pending Google AdSense site review. In this default mode, no active ad units are rendered, no advertising scripts run, and no advertising cookies are set. The site retains verification metadata (google-adsense-account) and an entry in /ads.txt solely for publisher site ownership verification.
Future / Enabled Mode: If advertising is activated via application settings, Google AdSense may serve advertisements on select pages. In that state, Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this or other websites. Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info. In addition, when advertising is enabled, prior consent is requested via our Cookie & Privacy banner.
5. Third-Party Service Providers
We rely on a limited number of service providers to operate and maintain the website:
- Ahrefs Web Analytics: Privacy-conscious traffic analytics used to monitor aggregate page views and broken links. Loaded only with visitor analytics consent.
- GoodData Analytics: Internal telemetry script that records aggregate UI interaction metrics. Loaded only with visitor analytics consent.
- Resend: Email transmission service provider used to send confirmation emails and editorial newsletters to subscribed readers.
- Hosting & CDN Infrastructure: Edge networks that process incoming HTTP requests to route assets globally and mitigate attacks.
- Google AdSense (Site Verification / Planned): Publisher verification metadata and
ads.txtrecords are configured for domain verification. Ad rendering is disabled by default until formal approval.
6. Data Retention & User Rights
Because HostSage does not maintain visitor accounts or profiles, we do not retain persistent browsing histories. Technical server logs are rotated and deleted automatically. Newsletter subscriber records are retained until the subscriber unsubscribes or requests removal.
Under applicable regulations (such as GDPR or CCPA), you have the right to:
- Know what personal data (such as newsletter email address) is held about you.
- Request deletion or correction of your email address or inquiry communications.
- Unsubscribe immediately from the newsletter using the link in any dispatch.
- Change or withdraw cookie and analytics consent at any time using the Cookie Preferences link in our footer. Withdrawing consent immediately suppresses future optional scripts and unmounts ad units. To delete third-party cookies previously placed in your browser before withdrawal, clear cookies via your browser settings.
To exercise any data subject rights, contact us at the editorial email below.
7. Children’s Privacy
HostSage publishes technical guides for software developers, system administrators, and infrastructure engineers. Our content is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us for immediate deletion.
